Maori potatoes

These are one type of Maori potatoes that my hubby thought would be fun to grow.  They are purple, inside and out, and make very interesting potato salad!  They are called 'roke kuri' .  The literal translation is 'dog poo' (well, not exactly 'poo', but this is a G-rated blog).  Gotta love the Maori language.
There seems to be a trend in food color here.  You can read about purple carrots here. I found them quite tasty, a bit sweeter than orange ones.
And we have some purple cauliflower seed to plant later in the fall.

The food may be boring, as I have blogged about before, but it is colorful.

That must have been one HUGE dog to have potatoes named after its poop. {;-)}

I had purple potatoes about 25 years ago, and believed they were from Peru.
I was living in Asia (Singapore) in mid 90s but never made it to NZ.
Regret that very much.
May be in another life

"Dog Poo" - LOL!! I love seeing the different foods you are "enjoying" in New Zealand. It's fun!

U still eat it? LOl

From thailand, there is a tamarind from its appearance, looks like the "thingy" I could not persuade myself to eat it. My friends laugh at me.

Lovely, I never knew there were purple potatoes. Looks delicious adding the color to the dish.

I have been living away from NZ for almost 30 years, and I know things change, but "dog poo" potatoes. I sure did laugh when I read your post.
Thanks for the chuckle.
