open air post office boxes

This is a usual sight in New Zealand, post office boxes on the outer wall of a store. This one happens to be at the 4 Square Store (click for link to store history) in Kaponga. I have also see them outside hardware stores and corner dairies (convenience stores minus gas).
This is quite a refreshing difference from the US  Post Offices that are locked up each night and still get broken into (personal experience).

That is really amazing. And so handy for the person who just wants to get their mail. Wonder about the security.

Wow post boxes are read as in Europe but different from ours.

Sadly, I don't think that would work in the US. It's nice to know there is a place in the world left where it is still safe.

In chch they are more and more inside Handy though if you can just take your mail out of the wall

Red, nice! That's how we get mail here in Meitar, Israel, too.
