depression era hut

At Pioneer Village in Stratford, I found this quite ingenious to make a house from metal drums.

The little sign on the door says 'whare' (pronounced far-ay), a Maori word that means 'home'.

I guess people made do with what they could find back then.

Fantastisch! Thans for sharing this little practical house of the past. It is ingenious. Groetjes Hetty

It's good that it's been kept so well, a good piece of historical evidence.

During my childhood (a half a century ago), I remember visiting homes that looked this way. Many people around the world still live in these conditions. It is amazing what people can endure and then accomplish when they put their minds to it.
