Manaia Redoubt


This is a concrete 1912 replica of the original wooden tower built on the redoubt (fort) 
along with two 1880's block houses.

Some interesting history about that, I've added that blog to my links, some of my ancestors were the first settlers to New Plymouth.

It is interesting to see the door to the white blockhouse was placed in a corner. I wonder why! It must have something to do with the security of the defenders of the fort. Off to Wikipedia and maybe find a rationale.
