All Saints, Uruti

Each town has a memorial to the fallen in the Great Wars.

Uruti is a settlement 34 km north-east of Waitara at the junction of the flood-prone Urutī and Mimi streams. Urutī was the first place in New Zealand to have a backblocks (rural) district nurse, in 1909. The 2003 movie The Last Samurai was filmed in the Urutī valley.h ttps://teara.govt.nz/en/taranaki-places/page-1

Lovely old building, seeing these memorials makes you realise how many small communities lost their young male population back during WW1.

I love these little old churches dotted around the place. This one certainly looks like it is being well cared for.

I love these little churches, simple, white with beautifully mowed lawns and a few old tombstones.

Love our wee churches like this - unfortunately so many are now unused and falling into disrepair.
Stay safe

Oh Betty this is such a beautiful church. It's very minimalist and blocky but it shows strength and deep love and meaning.

So fascinating that there were so many little communities that are now gone and yet there is a current trend in urban areas to try and regain that sense of local community at the neighbourhood and street levels. When those little communities were lost, I wonder what other social bonds and intangible assets were lost.
