taramakau road-rail bridge
This photo was taken in 2016 when we visited the South Island. The bridge has been replaced in 2018 and you can no longer drive over it.
Built in 1893 in Hokitika, it was the last road and rail bridge on the state highway network.
Great bridges these ones, shame it is closed now.
ReplyDeleteWhat an old classic... pity it's now closed, but that's what they call progress (or safety) I guess.

I hope they kept it...and built the new beside it.
ReplyDeleteCurious that the bridge was replaced so recently but no longer allows cars. Do people just walk across now?
ReplyDeleteWow!
