Late flowers

Of the many seeds that I planted in my garden last spring, I planted several kinds of hibiscus seeds for the first time. I didn't know much about them but, since they grow in gardens in my area, I thought I'd give them a shot. After waiting and waiting during the spring and summer, they didn't come up--and, neither did any of the other seeds :(

Our weather is a bit strange this year (I guess I should say, 'again'). Summer was late coming and it only got really 'summery' for a couple of weeks before autumn arrived, In the midst of it all, one hibiscus finally came up and gave me some awesome white blooms,

but not before I bought two different types of hibiscus plants that bloomed often for me.

Now that autumn is here, I look around my garden and find that the livingston daisies are coming up as are two or three different hibiscus plants. I had planted pincushion flowers in three different places but only one place grew--again, late in the summer.

And I noticed today that an azalea bush is blooming again. What is up with that??!

I admit that I like to be in control, but the weather is one thing that definitely does not succumb to my desires and I am learning to let things happen as they will. It's a good thing that I trust God to get it right :)

I have also had such difficulties with planting seeds and flowers here in Florida, USA. And then sometimes I get surprises that I'd totally forgotten about...or didn't even know existed! But we have an amazing Creator God, who can bring beauty in places we never dreamed possible...if we just take the time to look!! Thank you for sharing your flower stories today. I love seeing what grows in different places. And yes, the climate has been unusual here this past "winter"...we barely had a winter, and now spring seems to be turning into summer much too quickly. But we enjoy every day as it comes and give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!!

It's so neat to catch up with you again --after so many years. I remember you about 2010 or so ---and was intrigued by your move to New Zealand. My late brother and his wife traveled a lot ---and always said that New Zealand was their favorite place to visit...

Are you still happy there? Do you get back to the USA very often? I probably won't ever get there --but will enjoy catching up with your life and pictures from there....

I signed up to follow you via email...

Hugs,
Betsy

The weather has certainly been interesting in Brisbane, Australia over the last few years too. Jacarandas which used to flower only in November, now seem to flower multiple times a year. Their biggest flowering is still November when Brisbane is a sea of purple but there are often smaller flowerings throughout the year.
We are about to get the tail end of Tropical Cyclone Debbie as it tracks south after making landfall yesterday up north creating a lot of severe damage. We had a relatively dry Summer without the traditional "wet season".

It seems like all the seeds we plant never grow, and the ones that do grow, came from who knows where!

Trusting God here too. I love looking at your hibiscus as we wait for spring. Our different seasons continue to be a blessing and an irony. Glad for blogs to be able to dream.....

Nice flowers - we experienced some of your strange summer during our visit. Seemed normal to me! But I was brought up in the UK - so what do I know about summers!

Hello Betty, One of the things I enjoy about your blog is reading what is happening down in the Southern Hemisphere. I appreciate the way you share your photos of flowers and tell us about your seasons. I looked at Google Maps to see that it is about 7500 miles (12070 kilometers) from Seattle to New Zealand. Someday I hope to visit your country … it is near the top of my list of places to see. Our Spring is now underway and the flowers and trees are finally blooming. We had a very rainy winter but only a couple of snow storms. I wonder if you get snow in New Zealand? Thanks for sharing your blog and for your kind comments on mine.

I didn't even know you could grow Hibiscus from seed as I always see them as full grown plants in the garden center...but of course you can! Silly me. How funny that your azaleas bloomed twice too.
