Again!

Sometimes, being left out is not a bad thing.

When I woke up and got some coffee, I settled down to see what was happening in the world while I slept. I was absolutely shocked to find out that we had slept through another earthquake felt in NZ! It was quite a ways off shore from the other side of the north island but people all over the country felt it.

There was no major damage, so after looking around online, I found that some people in Taranaki (where I live) felt it and others slept through it, too!

Other than some concerned relative on social media, we weren't affected.

Earthquake

I'm sure most of you have heard that we had a huge earthquake last night. It was felt all over the country--that's BIG!

I definitely felt it and, for a few minutes, pictures swayed on the wall and free-hanging things swung, but we had no damage or injuries in our neck of the woods. The electric flashed off and on a couple of times, but we never lost power like the neighbors across the river behind us and many others around the country.

All is well at my house.

earthquakes--again

For those of you that have been kind enough to ask, I am safe. Thanks for asking.

The morning quake yesterday, near Seddon, merely woke up Hubby and me. Apparently, there were several quakes during the day.

Then about 5pm I feel the couch vibrating. Then the rocking chair started rocking and the wee wind chime that I had just hung inside the window started to sway. The shaking seemed like a looooong time--I know it was probably just 40 seconds or so, but it seemed so much longer!  And then it was over.  The quake itself is reported to have only lasted for 20 seconds.

Here's a map of the major fault lines in NZ. As you can see, I am not in the path of any, but I have felt a few over the last 7 years. The quake yesterday was the second time the earth couch moved for me :)

Even though Christchurch isn't sitting on top of any major faults, that's where the devastation was done in 2010. Some folks are still battling the insurance company and the government to be in a suitable house once again.

Kiwis pulling together

Hubby showed me this link on trademe (NZ version of ebay) that lists help for the earthquake victims.

Christchurch earthquake support link

As of this posting, there are 1172 emergency accommodations listed for those who have lost their homes.

Also there is a listing for lost and found pets--74 so far, with some who are volunteering to foster animals until things can settle down..

Someone is sending a 40' storage container that I am sure will be useful to many.

It warms my heart to know that New Zealanders pull together in the time of crisis.

Another earthquake

It was in Christchurch again--the same place as last year. This one seems to have done damage to different parts of the city and is quite devastating.
I am in the north island, so was not involved. Pleass pray for those that were.

Earthquake

Wow! I didn't know that news of NZ made it to the civilized world so fast!

It's humbling to see so many people showed concern by email. I am truly touched. Thank you.

For those who are still wondering, I live between New Plymouth and Hawera in the North Island.  The earthquake was about 30k outside of Christchurch in the South Island. I had to hear about it on the telly after I got out of bed!

Thanks again for those who showed such concern!
