Strange thing in my garden....

I have very little experience with succulents and was going to repot this one until I noticed that it was growing strangely. I left it to see what would happen and this is what happened! And, apparently, is still happening...

Is this normal?

The bloom looks kind of like the plant called "Hens and Chickens" which here in Oregon anyway puts out tendrils with "babies" on the ends. The tendril are nowhere near that thick though and grow along the ground.

Interesting plant -- I'll check back to see what the experts tell you!

Wish I could help but I've only just started getting into gardening myself. It is indeed very unusual looking. Love it!

Looks edible to me but then again I am Italian and we have only two modes...hungry and eating. Thanks for stopping by my Rue-Mouffetard blog....hope you stop back...Sue.

That is wild! Hens and Chickens came to my mind, too, but I've never seen them up in the air. It looks like a very happy plant!

I think what your hen and chickens is doing, is flowering. Mine did the same and ended up with pink flowers.

It is just the flower spike, most of the succulents put out something similar.

There is a photo on my blog (Friday Oct 1st ) and the second to last photo shows a similar flower spike although the plant it comes from is slightly different from yours. My plant, an Aeonium, is the bronze leafed version of yours.

A google search gives you lots of pics.

Its a very pretty plant, especially when in flower. Congratulations on your flower growing skills, you must be looking after it well!
