May 5, 2023 marks the 100 anniversary of the sinking of the SS Waitangi on the beach at Patea.
I have several photos from when the sands scattered and revealed the remains of the ship.

thanks for this post Betty - I had not heard of this shipwreck, but there is one in Himitangi Beach, near Levin, that was still visible some 10 years ago when last I was out there

Not much left of this old steamer now that it has sat on or under the beach for 100 years. Fun reading her history. Thanks for the post.
